Statues | Values

This book explores the text of philosopher Walter Benjamin’s The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction through the visual and contextual theme of statuary. Through its use of statues and statue-like objects from around the world and from all parts of culture, the book highlights Benjamin’s ideas about the cult and exhibition value of art, and the concept of an artwork’s “aura,” which is devalued by the modern process of mechanical reproduction.
