GRAPHIC DESIGNER

“Introduction to Algorithms” is an online, interactive lesson, part of the News Literacy Project’s Checkology virtual classroom, explains the concept of algorithms, how they work and where they exist in and influence our everyday lives. Intended for middle and high school students, this lesson takes a more humorous and cinematic approach to a technical and sometimes serious topic. It features subject matter expert and journalist Mia Sato, as well as characters Algo and Gen -- the personifications of algorithms and generative AI.
The lesson is unified by a cohesive style inspired by Y2K, digital and vaporwave aesthetics. Colorful gradients, dot-matrix typography, duotone images and grid patterns are references to retro visuals that ensure the lesson will remain relevant, even as the digital environment of the internet changes.
Development of graphic elements included the title screen and thumbnail image, static assessment backgrounds and chapter cover images, and assets for animation sequences. It can be viewed here.
